It’s a shame that many people only buy flowers when it’s a special occasion, or to signify an emotion that’s too difficult to put into words.
You see, when you think about it, flowers are perhaps the most affordable way to create a wow factor in any room.
For a few quid, they bring a burst of colour and life to any room, instantly brightening up the space and making it feel more welcoming.
And if you ignore the over-colourful, brash bunches that fill the buckets on petrol station forecourts, they have a natural elegance and a subtle charm.
But they’re not just easy on the eye, they’re good for the mind.
Studies have shown that having fresh flowers in the home can reduce stress, boost mood, and even improve focus and creativity.
The act of tending to flowers, such as trimming stems or arranging them in a vase, can also be a calming, meditative task that enhances mindfulness.
Their gentle fragrance fills the air with a soothing, pleasant scent, further contributing to a sense of relaxation and tranquility.
Flowers can also be bought to work with the palette of colours in a room.
For example, you might find some chrysanthemums that go well with your cushions. Or place some vibrant sunflowers to liven up a dull corner.
If you’re not confident with arranging, it’s probably best to go for a small, colourful mixture and a simple glass vase, like the one in our picture.
Even wild flowers picked from a hedgerow will do the trick if you just want to make a cupboard or counter-top look a bit special.
Every room will look better with a bloom.
